When
and where were you born?
I
was born 11 July, 1970 at UTH, University Teaching Hospital Lusaka,
Zambia.
A
little background about your education
Started
nursery school in the US, then continued at Kondwera nursery school in
Lusaka. Grade 1 and 2 in the US, grade 3 & 4 at Lusaka Girls', grade
5,6 &7 at St.Mary's, Lusaka, entire secondary years as a boarder at
Roma Girls', Lusaka. One year at ZIMCO Institute of Mgmt, Lusaka
studying computers, 1 year at Morgan State University, Baltimore, 4
years at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
Why
did you decide to leave the corporate world and become a musician?
Burning
desire to express myself and communicate to others through music, I felt
I had missed out my artistic creativity in the corporate world.
Do
you write your own songs and where do you gather the inspiration from?
Of
the 14 songs on the CD I wrote 9, co-wrote 4, and one was written for
me.
The
inspiration is from facts of life such as love, loss and laughter. I
grew up mostly listening to Dolly Parton and Joan Baez.
How
have family and friends taken your new career?
Initial shock from the family from fear, but total support now as I need
their support and encouragement to overcome my fears.
What
more should we expect from you and when is your next release?
If I tell you now what
more to expect, then that takes all the fun out of the rest of my
journey here on earth.
Are
you working with any local artists?
I am not working with any
local vocalists, but some local instrumentalists played on the CD.
What do think of the music industry in Zambia?
The music industry in Zambia is growing both locally and gaining
international recognition, but complacency is dangerous.
Zambia
has so many up coming musicians what is your word to them?
True musicians know that they are musicians first and the celebrity
world of lights, cameras and action is a consequence and not the focus.
