Marsha
Breaks Into US Market
Zambian
songbird Marsha Moyo continues to break new
ground with the latest achievement of her debut
album Dark Child this week officially entering
the US market. Through Los Angeles based company
Indie 911 the album finally enters the most
sought after entertainment market, upon the
recent signing of a licensing, agents and promotion
deal. Pleased with the development, Marsha acknowledges
that the US market is the toughest market to
penetrate but believes that this is a step in
the right direction. The US deal further offers
Marsha new and increased opportunities for promotion
and exposure and she now hopes and further expects
other songs on the album to have a wider platform
in which to grow, while setting the stage for
the release of her future material.
Since
its initial release, the 14-track pop, jazz,
r'n'b, soul album, on which Marsha wrote and
composed 12 of the songs has grown from strength
to strength. In May this year, her Dark Child
music video entered premier music video channel
MTV, while the album earned Marsha a SAMA music
nomination for Best African Artist 2003 and
two Kora All Africa Music awards 2003 for the
track Heaven's Watching. The Dark Child album
further spurned several radio hits such as Next
of Kin, Carpe Diem, Mexican Standoff and the
RFI (Radio France Internationale) compilation
CD song Pamodzi. The debut album has also taken
Marsha to perform at FESPAM in Congo Brazzaville,
Arts Alive in Johannesburg, South Africa and
as the first recording artist and African, at
the world's only seven star hotel the Burj-al-arab
in Dubai, UAE.
Initially released in South Africa by Sheer
Sound in September 2002, the album is distributed
continentally through Sony/BMG and is further
available in the UK under the label New Note.
