Sangwani
has been singing and writing from a very young
age. In fact he wrote his first song when he
was only 8 years old. Music also seems to run
in his family, Zambian music legend Alick Nkhata
was his grandfather.
He
has a lot of musical influences including Craig
David, Jimmi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye and Michael
Jackson. "I really like 70s music."
says Sangwani. "It's really funky and gets
you grooving. It's the type of music that people
will be listening to for generations to come."
Sangwani
comes from Lusaka, Zambia. Back home he has
been involved in plays. He also appeared on
the TV programme "Tune Into Kids"
in 1996. Sangwani has also worked with producers
such as TK of Romaside Records. He was also
one fifth of the Zambian boyband, Crewzone.
Sangwani
moved to the UK in 2002 to study Popular Music
and Law on the side. He got involved in the
college choir and did shows at various venues.
His biggest success after that was taking part
in the Phonestarz competition where he won with
a convincing 51%.
After that Sangwani
got signed to the Independent record label Studio
6 in December 2003. He released his debut EP
"Ready 4 This" in March the following
year, at the official launch of the label. A
guest of honour at the event was the Glastonbury
founder, Michael Eavis.
When
asked about his hopes and dreams for the future,
Sangwani says he has a list of things that he
wants to achieve. At the moment he says it would
be really cool if his debut EP went gold. He
hopes to keep writing and producing.
